Truchtlaching an der Alz

in the green valley

Large hill graves testify to the early settlement of Truchtlachings;

 which eventually became the property of the Bavarian dukes.

The Lehenritters of Truchtlaching had the say in the late Middle Ages. They were officials of the Archbishop of Salzburg and the Palgrave of Crainburg. In 1347 Emperor Ludwig surrendered to the Truchtlachingen knights the toll collection at the Alzbrücke.

Today, Truchtlaching is a state-approved resort in the Alztal with about 1150 inhabitants and more than 200 guest beds. If you want to enjoy peace, nature and rural village life, here is the right place.

The landscape protection area of the upper Alztal (the Alz is the outflow of the Chiemsee) offers cyclists and hikers ideal conditions to spend relaxing days away from stress and hustle and bustle.

Truchtlaching Parish Church,

which has the patron saint of John the Baptist, is a gothic building built in the first half of the 15th century. The church may have had a Roman predecessor; for the place is already mentioned in document 788. The Gotteshaus was a special church of the Knights of Truchtlaching. Some well-preserved tombstones are kept in the church by this ruling class.
