the junction towards Ruhpolding. In Ruhpolding you drive the bypass
and then you come to a roundabout and traffic lights. At this traffic light,
turn right and drive Vital Alpina past the swimming pool and then come to
the Unternbergbahn junction. Here it goes a bit towards the Raffner Alm.
History of the Unternbergbahn
The Unternberg has always been a popular mountain for skiers. With the Unternberg cable car, this was then opened up for modern skiing. The chairlift and tow lifts were built on several slopes. The slopes were groomed and marked with snow groomers.
The Unternberg presents itself today as the leisure mountain Ruhpolding. The small, fine ski area attracts skiers, snowboarders and ski tourers in winter. In summer, hikers, mountain bikers, hang-gliders and paragliders as well as families and nature lovers get their money's worth.
Unternberg hiking paradise
The Unternberg is the sport and leisure mountain of Ruhpolding. You can take the chairlift comfortably or walk from 740 m to 1425 m. In summer there is a cozy high-altitude hiking area with a wonderful 360 ° panoramic view of the Alps to Chiemau and Lake Chiemsee.
Family fun in Unternberg
There is a lot to discover for families on the Unternberg. The ride on the chairlift is an experience. A short hike to the summit and exploration of the area follows from the mountain station. The playground and the “crooked tower” are to be conquered there - a snack at the Unternberg Alm is a must.
Unterberg hiking paradise
Hiking tour I: On the forest road from the valley station of the chair lift (free parking) to the mountain station and the Unternberg Alm, in about 1.5 hours walking time. The small summit with a fantastic 360 ° panoramic view can be reached in just 5 minutes from the mountain station.
Hiking tour 2: On path no.4 from Seehaus to Unternberg. Always keep to the right, past the Kühbach service hut to a turning hammer. From here on the small path in about 10 - 15 minutes through the wind throw on the forest road. Turn right here and almost flat over the Unternberg. Walking time about 2.5 hours.
Hiking tour 3: On the asphalt road from the Urschlau towards Röthelmoos. After just a few minutes left over the bridge, follow the signs for "Hörndlwand" and signpost no. 48. Follow the path upwards until it turns left on path no. 44 in the direction of Hörndlwand. Here directly to the Branderalm (easy) or at the Hörndl Alm on the Hörndlwand over the Ostertal to Branderalm (demanding). The Branderalm is ideal for a break with its typical alpine hospitality. Continue on the forest road (path no.44) onto the saddle between Durlachkopf and Mittagswandl past the mountain guard hut to the summit of the Unterberg. Refreshments at the Unternberg Alm and either on the forest road to the valley station or comfortably down with the Unternbergbahn.
